February 2022 Meeting Minutes

OLD BUSINESS: 1)We are trying to emphasize the educational aspect of the club. We had sheets of Style of the Month with Sample Recipes available for February and March.

2) The Sign-in table now has a portion dedicated to Commercial Beers that members want to share. At the end of our regular meetings, one can take time to mention any notable commercial examples.

NEW BUSINESS: 1) We presented Ken with an engraved glass as a Thank-You for his service to the club.

2) January 2023 Style was voted to be Kellerbier.

3) Next LABS is White Stout. There is a poll on Slack regarding the date.

4) HomeBrewCon is in Pittsburg this year 6/23 to 6/25. We encourage members to attend. There is a Club Night: if we have enough participation, we may choose to get a booth ourselves. Beers can be registered for submission to their competition beginning in March. Shipping window to Pittsburg becomes available in May. We now have a Slack Channel to cover AHA-sponsored events (#aha).

5) Big Brew Day is 5/7. We are in talks with AleCraft to see if they would like to host us. For interest, check the new Slack Channel (#aha).

6) Christmas Beer 2022 will be a Belgian Golden Strong in honor of our club-member Dave who passed away in December. We will try to use his recipe.

7) We are considering supporting a Charity. If one has any ideas, reach out to the Board. We had a suggestion for a Pet Adoption event such as what Friendship did with their festival last year.

8) William took a few minutes to discuss Super-Bowl Squares. We will offer 100 squares at $5/square. Most of the proceeds will go to the Club, the rest will be divided for winning squares. Reach out to Art or on Slack.

9) The Board delivered Certificates of Appreciation to the 4 breweries that helped us out during the Pandemic: Hopkins, Double Groove, AleCraft and Independent.

FINANCIAL REPORT: we have around $1,400 total and 23 paying members.

MINI-TECH CORNER: sugar additions pertaining to Dark Strong, types of sugars, when to add, how to tweak emphasis from esters to phenols.

EVENTS: Kenneth Square Winter Fest is on 2/26. AleCraft has a slew of events coming up. Andy called in to our meeting and discussed all their upcoming events. Check their website.

BEERS: The style was Schwartzbier. Homebrew on style: Marc/Mike, Adi/Linda, Matt, Kevin. For Homebrew off style: George H had a Dirty Blonde, Ken a NEIPA, Art/Claire a witbier and Colin a bock. Our guest Alan brought a Dry Red Wine.

Cheers!
