A recently published study in the American Journal of Cardiology presents evidence that wine and alcohol consumption can play an important role in preventing coronary heart disease. The study used 130,000 subjects and concluded that between 1-3 drinks a day of any alcoholic beverage reduced the risk of coronary disease. The study also revealed that wine drinking was the most beneficial to women while it found that beer drinking was the most beneficial to men. Both wine and beer were found to be far better than hard liquor. The alcohol consumption was found to reduce the rate of LDL Cholesterol oxidation, platelet formation and buildup of fat in the arteries all of which are contributing factors to coronary heart disease. This study also found that moderate alcohol consumption may improve the brain functioning of aging women. Sorry guys there was no corresponding benefit to men. The study team concluded that the difference was due to two items. First the different way metabolism works in each sex. Secondly the hormonal activity are that occurs. Oh, well... bottom line is guys we should do all that we can to get our three beers in each day. What a dirty job, but someone has to do it.
